Elwin Lee "Bo" Johnston

Elwin Lee "Bo" Johnston age 86, of Greentree, formerly of Hazelwood, he was born December 6, 1930, in the Southside of Pittsburgh, and passed away peacefully on December 30, 2016, surrounded by his family at the Paramount Assisted Living in Baldwin. He was a son of the late Frank and Gladys Wageley Johnston. Elwin was a graduate of Taylor-Alderdice High School where he lettered in football and baseball. He attended the University of Pittsburgh and was called to serve his country during the Korean War. As a veteran of the US Army, Elwin was able to demonstrate both love of his country and his outstanding athleticism by playing baseball for the Army in Germany. He was a member of the 2nd Armored Division and the Rhine Conference Baseball Champions in 1954. Elwin was employed by US Steel and had a successful career as a computer programmer and then a systems designer until his retirement. He had an extreme love of reading, opera, golf, and the arts. He was the beloved husband of the late Lucia “Lucy” (DiGiorgio) Johnston; loving father of Kenneth (Lorraine) Johnston, Karen (Garth) Littrell, Elaine, and Fran (fiancé, Dave Hoover) Scott; grandfather of Nicholas (Nicole) Johnston, Megan (fiancé Josh Iacchini) Johnston, the late Brian Johnston, Spencer Scott, Connor (Jessica) Scott, and Lucy Scott; great-grandfather of Nicholas Johnston, Alexandra Johnston, and Gianna Scott. Elwin’s funeral services will be held on Friday, January 6, 2017, at 10 a.m. at the Jefferson Memorial Park Administration Chapel, Rev. Thomas Lewandowski officiating. Burial will be in Jefferson Memorial Park with military honors. Elwin’s family would like to thank Paramount Assisted Living (Baldwin) for their kindness, love and support.
