Joseph Hlad Obituary


JOSEPH G. "WHITEY" HLAD age 96, of West Mifflin, on Holy Saturday, March 31, 2018. He was a son of the late Joseph and Helen (Holko) Hlad. Whitey was a retired bearing repairman from US Steel Duquesne Works, a graduate of Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics, member of the American Legion Post 701 White Oak, former VFW Post 188, the AARP and the former West Mifflin Annex Senior Citizens. He proudly served our country in the Army during WWII. Beloved husband of 68 years to Cecelia A. (Rago) Hlad; father of Melany Hlad of Pittsburgh, Nadine (David) Winwood of White Oak and Patrice "PT" (Paul Ludwig) Hlad of West Mifflin; grandfather of Joseph Winwood of Brooklyn, NY and Nicholas Winwood of Manchester, NH; brother of Edward (Carol) Hlad of Jefferson Hills and the late Mary (late Michael) Pachuta, late Helen (late Harry) Gilliard, late Anne (late Anthony) Merda, late Michael "Minners" (surviving spouse Elizabeth) Hlad; also nieces and nephews. Visitation on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, from 2-8 p.m. at the MALOY - SCHLEIFER FUNERAL HOME, 915 Kennedy Ave., Duquesne, 412-466-3300. Blessing Service will be on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home followed by Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Name Church of Christ the Light of the World Parish at 10 a.m. Rev. Thomas Lewandowski officiating. Burial with military honors in Holy Trinity Cemetery, West Mifflin. Whitey's family would like to acknowledge the staff at Locust Grove and Bridges Hospice for their kind, compassionate care and support. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Caring Ministry of Christ the Light of the World Parish, 32 S. First St., Duquesne, PA 15110.
