Paul J. Mayer, 86, of McKeesport, formerly of Duquesne, died Monday, Aug. 17, 2015, in Kane Regional Center, McKeesport. Born Oct. 19, 1928, in Duquesne, he was a son of the late Walter and Wilhelmina "Minnie" (Striegel) Mayer; and the husband of the late Marie A. Wright. He was a retired letter carrier from the U.S. Postal Service, West Mifflin. He attended St. Patrick Parish, McKeesport, was a member of White Oak AARP, Versailles Borough AARP and National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean War. He is survived by his son, Ray Mayer of Pensacola, Fla., and his children, Stephen and Christopher Mayer, also of Pensacola, also son, David Mayer, of Madison, N.J.; daughter, Laurie Mayer Hudson and Bill Hudson, of Cypress, Texas, and their children, Leah, Kaylyn and Will Hudson, also of Cypress; sisters, Marian N. and Jack Holleran, of West Mifflin; stepson, Jimmy Wright, of Library; step-grandchildren, Jeff Wright, of Boston, Mass., Bryan Wright, of New York City, N.Y., Christopher Wright, of Pittsburgh, Jennifer Wright, of Bethel Park, Shannon Steffens, of Norfolk, Va.; numerous nieces and nephews; and also his dear friend and companion, Pat "Boots" Zosack, of Greenock. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his brother, George and Martha Mayer; and sisters, Helen and Frank Kacinko and Margaret and Charles "Bink" Oeler. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, 2015, in the MALOY-SCHLEIFER FUNERAL HOME INC., 915 Kennedy Ave., Duquesne, 412-466-3300, William B. Schleifer, Supervisor, William Brian Schleifer, Funeral Director. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, 2015, in St. Patrick Church, McKeesport, with the Rev. Paul Voida as celebrant. Interment with military honors will be held at Ss. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, West Mifflin. Memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association or the National Audubon Society. www.audubon.org.
