Florence (Banyas) Szekely

Florence (Banyas) Szekely, age 92, of Braddock, passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2025, in UPMC Mercy. Born in Braddock on June 22,1933, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Margaret (Obecunis) Banyas. She was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish-Good Shepherd Church, treasurer of the former Good Shepherd Senior Citizens, member of the Ladies Guild of Good Shepherd Church, director of the Third Order of Carmelites and was known for her wonderful nut rolls.

She was the wife of the late Rudolph Szekely. She is the mother of Rudolph (Marla) Szekely of Apollo, Cheryl (late Jerry) Pysk of Braddock, Brian Szekely of Braddock and the late Eric (wife Mary survives) Szekely of Pitcairn; grandmother of Rudolph “Rusty” (Madison) Szekely Jr, Jerry (Amy) Pysk, Andrea Pysk, Stephen Szekely, Cameron (Brook) Szekely, Nicholas Ehrhart and Robert Polinski; many great grandchildren; and sister of the late Bernice Bartirome.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, from 2-8 p.m., at the MALOY-SCHLEIFER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 915 KENNEDY AVE., DUQUESNE, 15110, 412-466-3300, WILLIAM B. SCHLEIFER, SUPERVISOR, WILLIAM BRIAN SCHLEIFER, FUNERAL DIRECTOR. A Blessing will be held at the Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m., at Sacred Heart Church of St. Joseph the Worker Parish, Braddock Hills, with Rev. Martin Barkin officiating.
