Irene "Renee" E. Fontanese

Irene “Renee” E. Fontanese, age 94, of West Mifflin, passed away on March 2, 2023, at home. Born in Pittsburgh on February 10, 1929, she was the daughter of the late John and Susanne (Benedict) Popovich. She was a former salesperson at Kaufmann’s-Century III in the children’s department, a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, a former Girl Scout leader, past president of the West Mifflin High School PTSA and Mon Yough Council PTA. Renee was the wife of the late David J. Fontanese for 37 years; mother of David J. Fontanese Jr. of West Mifflin, Richard (Kathleen) Fontanese of Erie, CO, Susan Fontanese, with whom she resided, Carol (Erich) Deffner of West Mifflin, Nancy (Jim) Schumann of Old Saybrook, CT, and Diane (Jeff) Lioon of Venetia; grandmother of John (Stephanie) Fontanese, Bradley Fontanese, Olivia (Dinesh) Fontanese, Maggie Schumann, James Maxwell Schumann, Katie Schumann, Alex Schumann, Jessica (Fawad) Lioon-Haider, Jeffrey Lioon Jr, Ian Lioon, and Anthony Lioon; and great grandmother of Vivienne Fontanese and Jazmine Lioon-Haider. She was predeceased by her brother and sisters, John (Eileen) Popovich, Mary (Robert) Wandrey, Margaret “Peggy” (Michael) Jugan, Martha Onofrey and Dorothy “Doe” Popovich (late Walter) Chila. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 6, 2023, from 4-8 p.m., and Tuesday, March 7, 2023, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at the MALOY-SCHLEIFER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 915 KENNEDY AVE., DUQUESNE, 15110, 412-466-3300, WILLIAM B. SCHLEIFER, SUPERVISOR, WILLIAM BRIAN SCHLEIFER, FUNERAL DIRECTOR, where a Blessing Service will take place on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Agnes Church-West Mifflin, with Rev.
