Tammy Chonko Obituary

Tammy B. Chonko, age 66, of Duquesne, passed away tragically, as a result of a motor vehicle accident, on Sunday, April 7, 2024. Born in McKeesport on March 8, 1958, she was the daughter of the late Ronald Bickus and late Henrietta “Etta Gail” (Wurzbacher) Sopko.

A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, she was a retired teacher from George Washington School, in the McKeesport School District. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church-Duquesne and was a devout Christian. She was a believer in the strong, full gospel of Jesus and a strong supporter and participant of the Confessing Synod prophetic ministry, which helped the Steelworkers garner benefits and has now been given credit for starting the National Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP). She was also a nature lover, enjoyed knitting, camping, gardening and spending vacations by the beach.

Tammy was the beloved wife of the late Timothy M. “Tim” Chonko for 39 years. She is the mother of Julia (fiancé, Jeffrey Harris) Chonko of Mt. Washington, Jeffrey (Liz) Chonko of Seattle, WA, and Kara Sharp of Los Angeles, CA; grandmother of Gina Cisternelli, R.J. Dixon, J’Adore Jackson, and Jack Chonko; sister of Ronda Brourman of Edgewood, Greg Bickus of Chicago, late Joetta Bickus and late Andrew “Drew” Bickus; and aunt to John and Michael Sharp and many other nieces and nephews.

She spent her last day at the place she treasured most, Scottyland Campground, with her bible by her side. Her "primitive" family will remember her dearly.
