Obituary

Victor Thomas "Tom" Vash, age 91, of Pittsburgh, formerly of West Mifflin, passed away on March 29, 2022 at home. Tom was born on December 16, 1930, to the late Evelyn (Synder) and Victor Vash. Tom leaves behind his best friend and loving wife of over 43 years, Joanne (Musulin) Vash, son, Thomas (Amber) Vash of Glassport, daughters, Jennifer (Mike) Olson of West Mifflin, and Guanna Vash of Lionsville, grandsons, David (Sarah) Obradovich, Jaxon and Jordan Olson, and, granddaughter, Ashely (James) Walker. Tom was proceeded in death by his first wife Lorraine “Bonnie” (Ambrose) Vash, sons, Gary Vash, Mark Vash, and daughter in law, Helen Vash.

Tom was a 3-year Navy Korean War Veteran having served on the ships Soley, Doner and Monrovia, which his unit helped to recommission.  During his time in the Navy, Tom reached the Arctic Circle and Thule Bay, Greenland.  Tom loved to fish, hunt and do gardening and would share the fruits of his labor with neighbors, family and friends. He was a proud member and founder of his camp in Punxsutawney called “Timber Tramps.”  Tom spent some of his cold Pittsburgh winters in Florida as a snowbird and while there was a member of the Floral Lakes bowling and shuffleboard teams.  Some other of his favorite past times include trips to the local casinos and playing cards with special friends and family.  In 1985, Tom retired from West Mifflin School District as a Carpenter. After retirement, Tom spent the next 15 years as a stay-at-home father for his children, Thomas and Jennifer. Tom had a great smile and could always make people laugh with just a few simple words. Tom will be missed by all who knew him, and he will remain in our hearts forever.

In addition to his wife, children and grandchildren, Tom leaves behind his brother, Daniel Vash, sister, Janice Mamas-Dobrowolski, sisters-in-law, Donna (Jim) Fester, Cecelia (Randall) Lucas, brother-in law, John (Sally) Musulin as well as many Kumovi, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and extended family.
